Last night we had a pumpkin carving party here at the house. A great time had by all. But the culminating event was definitely the tossing of the pumpkin. I hope it becomes an annual event. My friend Kevin Rogers happened to bring a video camera and caught the action. Thanks Kevin.

So Don, I just have a few specific questions for you:
1. How much did the pumpkin weigh?
2. What had it done to you to make you hate it so?
3. How did it feel to hurl it to its doom?
4. Did you feel any guilt at all in destroying it and simultaneously defacing the sidewalk?
5. Did you see any animals eating it later?
6. Were other pumpkins tossed?
7. Did you/Could you make a contest out of it? What were/would be the rules?
8. Do you do this kind of thing you do with the kids you mentor?
9. How many pumpkins were carved?
10. Were any of them frightening?
11. Did you put wigs on them and make them do impressions?
12. Did you roast the seeds?
13. Did you make pumpkin pie?
14. What about bread? Did you make pumpkin bread?
15. Ooo, or donuts? Mmmmmm donuts.
Yeah, if you could get back to me on these, that’d be grea…oh wait…

Last year during Halloween I saw some kids on my street do a “drive by pumpkin bashing.” The next day I saw a six year old crying while he and he dad picked up the pieces of the pumpkin.

That reminded me of Michael Scott throwing a watermelon off the roof of the building.
The end.

If Barak Hadley were to illustrate this moment would he focus on the social injustice illustrated by decadent Americans wasting a food product that could easily feed a needy family with pie for at least one dessert? Or perhaps the fact that such a grace filled man has finally reached his breaking point, taking his stress over the current political process out as “hatred” toward a defenseless gourd? Or would he try to find meaning in the mysterious comment that closes this act of violence? Is the statement “talk to me” rhetorical? Is that a question, exclamation, demand? I agree with t clair… to me the still appears somewhat “scrotal”.

Don,
This is totally unrelated to Pumpkin tossing and does not need to be published in the blog but….make sure you are at your church on Sunday November 2nd. Gary Haugen (President of IJM) will be speaking at your church and his message is amazing. He is defintely going to win the Noble Peace Prize someday for the work he is doing. Gary and his staff are living scripture by defending the widow and rescueing the oppressed. You don’t want to miss it!

As males I think we just love to throw things and watch them blow up. I’ve gotta go find a pumpkin and a balcony now…

Don, If you ever get a chance to visit Morton, Illinois, I would highly recommend it. Not only is it the pumpkin capital of the world, but they have an annual Pumpkin Festival. The highlight of this festival is the Pumpkin Chuckin’ Contest. People have actually built catapults and they hurl pumpkins hundreds of yards all over the Midwest. It’s amazing. I think it might even be in the Guiness Book of World Records. Now there’s something to shoot for at your next Halloween party–going for distance!
