  1. Terrific video! Used to live in Beaverton and work in Portland. Moved to Bay Area only because of work. Hope to find my way back again someday. More like the armpit of roses. It’s fabulous.

I just finished reading the book. Amazing, and timely. I was one of the lucky few (250) who got a copy from the publisher, and cannot post my review until Sept 29, but I’ll say this: My wife read it in one day. All 250 pages. I read it in 3 days, and it usually takes me 3 weeks to read a book of that size. I couldn’t put it down.

you should move to Tennessee… say Murfreesboro…

Vince and Neva– I noticed that too. This video is a bucket of lies. Delicious, delicious lies.

  5. Darren King says:

Everything in the video was real. But only one shot – *ONE* – showed rain-slicked streets. Come on, that’s false advertising isn’t it?

I lived in the Portland area for a time, and I grew up in Vancouver, BC. But sorry, the rain alone washes away too much of the other good stuff. I’m not in a dryer climate, and loving every minute of it. The sun is beautiful to behold. Who knew?!

  6. Darren King says:

Ooops, that should read “I’m NOW in a dryer climate”. Just outside of Bend actually. 300+ days of sunshine a year!

  7. Robin says:

My flight leave at 5. My husband and kids will come once he finds a job in Portland. Joking- sort of.

  8. Kristi says:

Just read the new book and really liked it. It took me just one week. Just a suggestion for a better love life Donald, read The Marriage Builder by Larry Crabb.

  9. Vik says:

    Dear Don,

You don’t know it, but I used to sit behind you in church at Imago. I went to Warner Pac for 4 years. You are part of the reason I went there—and definitely the reason I went to Imago. I read Blue Like Jazz when I was a senior in high school. It changed my life. I re-read it every 3 months to remind myself of the things that are really important in life. I saw you give the same lecture twice one time. The first was in Austin at Youth Specialties…and then the following Sunday at Imago. Something about needing a Christian printer so that your Christian paper wouldn’t be molested by a secular printer. I was laughing the whole time–both times. 4 months ago I left Portland. I took a job just an hour away doing youth ministry. I love it. But I miss Portland. I miss Palio. I miss Pepinos. I miss Mt. Tabor. I miss Imago and Warner. I miss good coffee!

Thanks for writing down your life dude. You are easily my hero. Easily.

  14. Rebeka says:

Born and raised in Oregon, I have been away for going on two years now living in Texas and DC…all my husband and I do is daydream about Portland and when we might get to come back some day…

  15. Anne says:

You should come to sunny St. Petersburg, FL and take me out on a date.

  16. I’ll trade any day. I live in latin america and I have to wait in line, for hours, just to pay my rent, everyone stares at me and brings their friends to stare at me as if I were a circus freak (I’m kinda tall with a giant beard), and I have 4 inch cockroaches scurrying about the house on occasion.

    The evil side of paradise.

  17. Andre says:

Portland Oregon! I love this city so much………….

It rains too much and people are not as friendly in New Mexico but heck – no sales tax!
