For Those of You Coming to Portland, Welcome

It looks like the weather is going to warm up and stay dry for the Storyline Conference (see below about the name change) this Sunday and Monday. We can’t wait. We’ve been working for months on this, and it is by far the most preparation we’ve put into any event. Here are some things to expect:

1. Registration begins at 5 on Sunday. There’s a matinee of Sunset Boulevard in the theater, so we will be doing a changeover on the stage as registration takes place. The lobby is large and there’s an in-house coffee shop and cafe, so we can hang out in the lobby before the conference begins. Though we don’t start until 6:30, feel free to come at 5, get registered, and then explore the neighborhood. Powell’s, the largest new and used bookstore in the world is right across the street, and there are tons of shops and restaurants to check out.

2. Because we will be setting up our stage, we won’t be able to open the doors to the actual theater till 6 (the lobby will be open for registration). Come right at 6 and claim your seats. There’s not a bad seat in the house, but the closer we all come to 6, the more likely we will be able to start on time. This will also give you a chance to read through the first part of the notebook.

3. On the first night, we have a slight surprise for you. Please bring your government issued ID when you come. And a jacket in case it gets cold outside, and shoes that will allow you to walk a mile or so. Will you help spread the word to everybody you know who is coming? You don’t need to be 21 for this special optional event, but you will need an ID.

4. We are nearly at capacity, but if you are thinking of walking up and registering, please come early. We have about twenty seats left.

5. A while back, we changed the name of the Living a Better Story Seminar to The Storyline Conference. We will announce the name change at the event, but all your materials will read Storyline. We will also be using #storyline as a hashtag.

6. In the theater, there will be certain rows with electrical outlets on chords for laptops. If you have a laptop and want to use it to take notes, come close enough to 6 to grab one of these seats. There is WiFi in the theater, but it is expected to jam very fast, so you won’t be able to do much live blogging. We are also asking that you do not record the sessions, as there are secrets and surprises that we want to keep between us.

I think that’s about it. We will go through everything else in the theater. We hope to start right at 6:30 and plow through the first night. It’s killing us having to wait to meet you. We will see you very soon.

Safe travels.

Sincerely,

Don
