A Visual Reflection for Easter

Happy Easter, everybody. My friend Jeremy Cowart is known for his photography but one of his primary passions is fine art. He’s been returning to drawing and painting lately and put together this little Easter greeting and e-mailed it to his friends. I thought it was terrific. Enjoy, and have a wonderful Easter celebration.

    That is awesome!

  5. Lori Ventola says:

Oh, my. Oh, my. I just spent six minutes saying “Oh, my.” I began by thinking I could never do something like this and admiring his talent. By the end it was giving me courage to experiment and trust that something beautiful will emerge from the experimentation. The video is an entirely separate piece of art from the finished piece. So glad you shared this.

An amazing work – both the finished piece, and the video. Quite moving. There were times I wanted to say “stop, it’s perfect just as it is.”

Thank you so much for sharing that video. Easter is for everyone, and the wonder of that has been lost for me as I try to wrap up my school work for this semester. I really needed to see that beautiful film. Thanks.

  15. Sherri says:

    This is seriously groovy.

  16. Mr. Miller,

    Two things.

1.) This is pretty awesome. Let Mr. Cowart know that this just blew my mind. I am a Graphic Comm Major and his digital manipulation abilities are rockin.

2.) I doubt you will respond to this, or perhaps even read it. But, in the case that you do, I am biking across the country in a couple of weeks with my buddy Fletcher, to talk to people about Jesus. We will be in the Portland/ Corvallis area from May 10th-May 12th. If you’re free, we would love to meet up for coffee. It requested my email, but if you don’t get that, I guess a response on this comment feed would also be a good indication if we could get in contact with you.

Anyways, keep up the good work, your books are awesome.

    thanks,
    Dkal

  22. Joseph says:

    Simply brilliant!

  23. Stephani Brink says:

So much to see in this:
1- Man’s attempts at constructing Jesus.
2- Christ’s humanity versus his divinity.
3- Jesus as all things to all people.
4- “Who do YOU say that I AM?”

    cool

  25. I am totally a fan! I was writing about Ur books today on my blog and it inspired me to come check out your blog. You can come visit at http://www.urbanstarlings.blogspot.com .

  26. Dan says:

Do you think we should be “looking for ourselves” in Christ? I found this work disturbing. Reading some of the comments it is clear that the basic attraction is seeing “a piece of ourselves in God” rather than the truth – which is that Christ was not an abstraction but rather one incredible, real, and unique human being.

    • Dan says:

There is a tendency for human beings to want to be “god”. Apparently, this was also a temptation for angels at one point – catch my drift?? :)

      • Nicole says:

        Hi, Dan!

I think it has more to do with showing Jesus’s humanity, than in trying to make ourselves into God. Indeed, he was a completely unique human being, but as with us all, it took the genetic combination of hundreds of individuals to make Jesus who he was. And it was a very diverse group of people in his background. That’s what I see more from this. Jesus was just like us. And he is making us into his image.

        Just my take.

  27. Lorenzo says:

Thanks for sharing, Don! Happy Easter! Such an amazing celebration for us all; and this is a great way to express it. I love the arts and cool video, too. By the way, here’s my own showcase for my works in progress: http://iseegodinthat.tumblr.com/

    All the best!

  28. Don-

This isn’t the best venue for this comment, but best I could find. :) I’m a fellow blogger and make a habit of letting someone know when I’ve posted about them in some way as a courtesy. Nothing inflammatory, I promise!! :) BTW, I’m enjoying BLJ more than I expected. Thank you!
    Cheers,

PS as someone who used to dabble in art, I really enjoyed watching Jeremy’s creative process and how it combined so much for the final piece.

  29. Michelle says:

Hey Don…where’d you go? You deserve a rest, but please write more soon. I miss my daily dose.

  30. Jon says:

    Hey Don,

If you haven’t yet you should check out Kenneth Slawenski’s biography on JD Salinger released a few months ago. Not only is it a fascinating account of his life but it revealed some new insights to me about his writings. I had similar feelings as you about Catcher In The Rye until I read this book. I think you’d enjoy it.

  31. Nicole says:

I finally got to watch this. It’s beautiful. I posted the link on my Facebook and one of my friends was like, “His eyes are creepy!” Ah, well. To each his own. :)

  32. David Peach says:

This was amazing! I know I am over a week late to see it on Easter, but this is good any time of year. The creativity to even think of all those layers is amazing.
