I have read all your books, and love them, but Searching for God Knows What is still my favorite. I found that I kept wanting to put it down and go read the gospels and see all the things you were pointing out about Jesus. I think "the mingling of challenge and kindness" is a lovely way to describe Jesus and how He relates to us. Lovely.

LOVE... the ultimate weapon of mass construction! Historians can tell us what they think of this empire and that ... the who and the what. But to gain perspective from one of the empire builders' themselves ... especially in praise of the Master Builder ... is truly a treat. Thanks Don.

I actually think that by saying Jesus is a chair that person is talking about stability and support. We have to have faith the He will always be there and that He will not let us fall. We have to have faith that once we sit down(commit to Jesus) we will be safe and not fall to the ground. This person actually has a great point because I never thought about this. I think Jesus wants us to understand Him in the way that best makes sense to us and then once we are saved He will explain Himself in better detail.

This is amazing to me in two ways:
I am dentist and maybe therefore I can even understand more of the parable than "patient-side" readers. There is a huge difference between "doing" and "talking" dentistry.
On the other hand it just fits so well into what religion has somehow become today.

How come you picked dentistry as your example?

I didn’t hear the guy’s talk so I can only express an opinion based on this post. I think the speaker is talking about how to act on a revelation. We can know Christ exists, but we only believe when we act on the revelation by inviting Him into our lives as Lord and Saviour. I think he is talking about how to act on a principle once it is understood, so that it becomes a reality in your life.

I believe scripture has so much poetry because there was so much inspiration by men and women who deeply were searching for God's heart and found it. Such poetry has become what we now are able to read and considered the most wonderful, powerful book: the Bible. I hope that today Bible reading would create more poets writing poetry not in the attempt to explain, because poetry in not understood but felt with the heart, but to simply repeat what once happened, yet in a different kind of experience... through faith.

Don,

Thanks for being so real in your blog and taking stances on things you feel are important.

We Christians have become all too used to "making everyone happy" and forget to take a stand or we fear the repercussion of potential conflict that could come from our action.
